Golden Slumbers - A Father's Love is a collection of heartfelt songs celebrating the bond between father and child. Following in the footsteps of the Grammy nominated "Golden Slumbers – A Father's Lullaby" the album brings together artists from all different genres sharing their own unique perspectives on what it means to be a dad. The album features contributions from such Grammy Award winning and critically acclaimed artists such as Dave Matthews, Phil Collins, Michael McDonald, Smokey Robinson, Jon Secada, Carlos Ponce, Richard Marx, Buddy Jewell, Will Downing, Solomon Burke, Loudon Wainwright III and Kirk Whalum, with a special appearance by James Earl Jones.
“I think it’s rare in creating music projects that something can resonate with such a deep individual yet universal feeling of what it’s like to be a parent and to have the opportunity for these men, who are fathers to share that side of themselves with their fans just feels good on gut, innate level.” says Executive producer and guitarist Jeff Koz.
The inspiration for the first “Golden Slumbers” recording, which featured instrumental renditions of new and classical lullabies and received a Grammy nomination, came with the birth of Jordan Koz, daughter of keyboardist/guitarist Jeff Koz and niece of saxophonist, Dave Koz.
“I feel the success of that first record was due largely to the beauty and universal listening experience, whether you were a father, a mother or a child,” admits Dave Koz. “I think we’ve reached another level on this new project because we’ve introduced lyrics.”
Each artist on the album was given the opportunity to contribute a song that they felt best expressed their own unique perspective on fatherhood. Some wrote new songs inspired by the concept of the album, and others chose to reinterpret one of their personal favorites. The result is a diverse mix of music that every member of every family can relate to and enjoy.
In addition to providing a touching insight to the relationships between these artists and their children, a portion of proceeds from "Golden Slumbers: A Father’s Love" will benefit the National Fatherhood Initiative (NFI), the nation’s leading fatherhood organization, whose mission is to improve the well-being of children by increasing the proportion who grow up with involved, responsible and committed fathers. The CD will also be released in conjunction with the NFI’s annual Golden Dad's Project. The campaign, sponsored every Father’s Day, is an event where celebrity dads reach out into the community and catch other dads doing something special with their children - from going to the zoo, taking a walk or going to the
movies.
